When you join our Ship Crew with Disko Line, you become a vital part of keeping the towns and settlements connected.
Disko Line operates in South Greenland and Disko Bay. During the summer, we hire a larger number of seasonal employees to support our operations.
Some days you sail regular routes between towns like Ilulissat, Qeqertarsuaq, and Aasiaat. Other days, you work closely with our guides, taking guests to the icefjord, Eqi Glacier, or out on whale safaris.
Maybe you are a local sailor who knows these waters by heart. Maybe you are an experienced sailor from abroad looking for a new challenge in raw Arctic conditions. Or maybe you just cannot get enough of the ocean (we get it, us too).
Either way, if you share our love for the sea, adventure and tourism.
This might just be the job for you.
Meet Kim
Before joining our crew Kim sailed with both Royal Arctic Line and Royal Greenland. Now, the Disko Bay waters are his office and he knows the Icefiord like his own backyard – because it is.
He is also a skilled photographer and often takes photos for both his own and our social media. On guided tours, he is great at helping guests capture the perfect moment.

Sailing in Greenland
Sailing here is something entirely different. You navigate Arctic waters shaped by weather, ice, and ever-changing conditions.
The icefjord is the boss. Conditions can change overnight – sometimes within an hour. It is a challenge we both love and respect, and you quickly learn that you are working with powerful forces, not against them. That also means, plans can change quickly due to weather or ice, so flexibility and a positive mindset are essential.
We sail mostly from May to November. Depending on your qualifications, you will sail steel vessels with up to 60 passengers or smaller Targa boats for 12 guests. We normally sail during the day, which means you return home each evening.
To join our sea crew, we expect a minimum of a Certificate of Competency to work as a skipper, and at least basic maritime training to work as a deckhand.
Meet Karl
“xx”
Karl has been our mechanic since 2021. If there is a problem, Karl is the one you call. He can also sail all of our Targa boats and never misses a chance to go sailing.
During the summer, you will find him around the harbour. In the winter, he works in the workshop with Fari, maintaining and preparing all our Targa boats for the next season.

Being part of our team
… means being in close contact with guests and colleagues from all over the world. Therefore, being service-minded, calm, and able to create a good atmosphere on board is just as important as your technical skills.
On all trips, there is always at least a captain and a deckhand. On guided excursions, a guide joins the crew and can also assist as a deckhand. Together, you prepare the boat, welcome guests, and make sure they have a safe trip.
Safety and good service are at the heart of everything we do. We are looking for someone who takes responsibility, stays focused, and respects nature and its forces.

Meet Niklas
“It is both social and practical work, and for me the social aspect matters the most. We all share the same interest in Greenland and in sailing”
Niklas comes from the sailing yacht world and also owns his own sailboat in the Caribbean. When he is not in the tropics, he has, since 2025, been sailing for us as a skipper on the Targa boats and as a mate on the steel ships
